Horse Sanctuary Statements Supporting a Carriage Ban in Savannah:
“Stone Meadow Farm Equine Sanctuary is the lifetime home to 18 horses and minis. They’ve come to us from a variety of unfortunate situations. Through years of rescue and rehabilitation, we share with many others the horror carriage horses can experience. We’ve seen them drawing carriages while sick and injured. In settings dangerous and frightening. This practice should be banned, and we stand behind Savannah.“

“We are Lancaster Farm Sanctuary, a 501c3, non profit animal rescue that rescues horses as well as other animals. We support a horse drawn carriage ban in Savannah, GA. Firstly, there more humane and safe e-carriages available that do not involve the exploitation of horses. The carriage industry has been shown to exploit horses. They are forced to pull heavy loads in all weather which creates a lot of health problems including back and leg problems. We have a rescued horse, George, who pulled a carriage for ten years and it has taken monthly hospital visits for nearly a year to get him to be able to walk again without pain. Horses do not belong in traffic, on hard roads. Being bound in a harness and pulling a carriage is against every instinct of a horse (who are prey animals). Please follow the path of more forward thinking cities and ban horse drawn carriages in Savannah.“
