2019

Incident #1: In 2019, 7 people, were pinned under a carriage, injured, and hospitalized after the horse was spooked by loud city noises and ran through an intersection tipping over the carriage with passengers underneath. The horse itself was injured.

Incident #2: A “horse got impatient at an intersection and backed up and then tipped the cart over onto its side.”

2018

A carriage horse slipped on ice and was injured:

In response, the city asked the companies to refrain from operating until the ice was no longer a safety hazard.

The Historic Carriage Company ignored this request for public safety, putting the horses at further risk for the sake of profit, and stated: “The city cannot tell us that we cannot operate. If that’s the case, no tour business like trolleys, walking tours, or slow rides should’ve been out either.”

2014

In 2014, a horse threw the carriage operator from the carriage, sending 5 passengers racing down the street and hitting four vehicles before coming to a stop where members of the public had to intervene, in an incident caught on tape. Pedestrians on the street came close to being hit by the runaway carriage. The passengers included an elderly individual and children who all were injured. The carriage operator sustained more severe injuries including broken bones
